hunk could have been like so many other dogs at the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter. As a middle aged owner-surrender Rottweiler mix he stood little chance of getting out of the pound alive. The callous owner by the way didn't even bother give the dog a name. How could a sweet dog like this not have a name? Along with not having a name the poor boy was filthy, full of ticks, and had toe nails that were so long that they were turning in on themselves causing painful infections. Thankfully his poor treatment in his previous life has had no impact on his sweet nature and shelter volunteers fell in love with him. It's kind of hard not to, he looks as much like a grizzly bear cub as he does a dog and he is so mellow and fun. So when the email from the shelter volunteer came through our emails – we took one look at his face and his silly grin we had to get him out. A group of rescuers came together and pulled this big sweet boy. Chunk has been out of the shelter for two weeks now and is the darling of his boarding facility. Chunk is about 5 years old. He seems just fine with other dogs and ok with cats- he's interested but doesn't chase them. Chunk weighs about 80 lbs and is very solid. Not fat, just husky. (He was named Chunk after the character in Goonies by the way- everyone asks). Chunk is very affectionate and mellow and potty trained. Chunk isn't a runner. If you're looking for a sprinting partner he might not be it, but if you're looking for a big hunk of loving dog... Chunk is your man!
